Triiiple “best skyscraper in the world”

The “Triiiple Towers” by the Viennese firm Henke Schreieck Architekten on the Danube Canal in the third district were named the “best high-rise building in the world” by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) at the weekend.

The non-profit organisation specifically awarded the climate-neutral heating and cooling system, which functions self-sufficiently and without the use of fossil fuels by using water from the Danube and wind power. The high-rise triplets were the only European project to prevail among 34 submissions from all over the world.

New recreational area

The three-part ensemble of Triiiple Towers was built on the site of the old customs office on the Danube Canal in Erdberg in the third district, with each of the three residential towers around 100 metres high. In order to be able to build the three towers, a section of the A4 airport motorway had been built over in advance, so that a new recreational area was created around the towers.

The two northern towers will be used for privately financed housing, with prices ranging from 600,000 to 2.2 million euros. The southern tower contains 670 “micro-apartments” that will be rented to students and young professionals.
